At Splash About, we design Girls Swimwear to support children at every stage of their swimming journey. The right choice depends on your child's age, where she'll be swimming and whether she needs leak protection, extra warmth or sun coverage.
Our collection of swimming costumes, rash vests and legionnaire hats is designed in the UK to keep young swimmers comfortable and confident in the water.
What Girls Swimwear Is Best for Each Age Group?
Choosing the right swimwear depends on your child's age and needs. Here's a quick guide:
Baby Girls (0-2 years) | Leak protection, warmth, comfort
Happy Nappy or Happy Nappy Costumewith built-in leak protection; UV Sun and Sea Suits or rash tops for outdoor swimming; Warm In One or thermal swimwear for cooler pools
Toddler Girls (2-4 years) | Freedom of movement, warmth, comfort
Swimsuits paired with rash tops for lessons and pool play; UV swimwear and matching legionnaire hats for holidays; Thermal swimwear for longer lessons or cooler pools
Older Girls (4+ years) | Style, activity-appropriate options, individual needs
Swimsuits or two-piece sets for lessons and pool sessions; UV tops and swimwear sets for beach days; Discreet incontinence swimwear for children who still need leak protection
For babies, leak protection is essential for swimming lessons and most public pools. Our Happy Nappy™ systems are trusted by UK swim schools, keeping pools hygienic and babies comfortable.
As girls become more confident and active in the water, comfort and freedom of movement matter more. Our designs combine practical features with bright, engaging prints that help build confidence.
For older girls, our incontinence swimwear looks and feels like regular swimwear, helping them feel confident alongside their peers.
What Should Girls Wear to Swimming Lessons?
Many swim schools recommend or require specific swimwear, particularly for babies and toddlers. Here's what we suggest:
For girls attending swimming lessons, a Happy Nappy Duo™ is required for all age groups, as many swim schools rely on its double-layer design for secure protection and pool hygiene.
For baby girls aged 0–2 who aren’t yet potty trained, the Happy Nappy Duo™ should be worn as their main lesson swimwear, with an optional thermal layer over the top if extra warmth is needed.
For toddler girls aged 2–4, children who are not yet potty trained should also wear the Happy Nappy Duo™, while potty trained toddlers can wear a swimsuit or two-piece underneath, plus an optional rash top for comfort, coverage, or to help prevent rubbing.
For older girls aged 4+, Splash Shorts offer discreet leak protection that can be worn under a standard swimsuit or two-piece. Made with Happy Nappy™ technology, they're contoured to fit the body without adding bulk, so older children can swim confidently without feeling like they're wearing a nappy. A rash top can be added for extra warmth and comfort if desired.
Our girls swimwear meets swim school requirements and keeps children comfortable and confident in the water.
How Does Splash About Girls Swimwear Help Girls Stay Comfortable?
Rash vests provide extra coverage for active swimmers who spend extended periods in the water. They protect shoulders, backs and stomachs from harmful UV rays. And the lightweight fabric doesn't restrict movement.
These tops layer beautifully over swimming costumes for cooler water temperatures or when you want additional coverage. They also pair perfectly with our Splash Jammers for children who need incontinence protection. The fabrics dry quickly, making transitions between water and poolside play comfortable.
How Does Splash About Keep Girls Warm in the Pool?
We all know that shivery feeling when the water's a bit chilly, and little ones feel it too. If a child gets cold, she might tire more quickly or lose some of that lovely confidence she's been building.
Our Warm In One™ suits are lined with super soft fleece and cover arms and legs for full body cosiness, while our Thermaswim suits offer that same lovely warmth with a stretchy fit that moves with your child. Both are perfect for keeping little swimmers comfortable throughout their lessons. Thermaswim suits can also double as a base layer for outdoor adventures or the journey home (just avoid pools above 32°C). You can layer either over a Happy Nappy™ Swimsuit for extra insulation too.
For beach days and outdoor pools, UV Sun & Sea suits offer great protection. And for active older girls in cooler water, Shorty wetsuits provide extra warmth without restricting movement.
