Fit Guide - How our Baby Swimwear should fit.
Getting the right size for your baby's swimming products is crucial for both safety and comfort. Many Splash About baby swimming products depend on proper fit, particularly our swim nappies and wetsuits. This guide explains how to measure your baby and find the perfect size for each product type.
What Size Happy Nappy™ Do I Need?
The Happy Nappy™ and Happy Nappy Duo™ require accurate sizing for effective leak protection. These award-winning swim nappies feature specialised ribbed seals around the thighs and waist that must fit snugly against your baby's skin to contain solids within the nappy.
How should a Happy Nappy™ fit?
When correctly sized, the Happy Nappy™ should cup your baby's bottom with the back sitting slightly higher than the front. The top should reach the belly button, and the thigh seals should sit at the top of the thighs without cutting into the skin. You should be able to run a finger around the inside of each seal to prevent chafing or redness whilst maintaining a secure fit.
How to measure for Happy Nappy sizes:
Avoid measuring immediately after feeding
Lay your baby down flat
Measure the circumference of their body across the belly button
Measure the circumference of the fullest part of their thigh
Remember that babies come in all shapes and sizes, so always measure rather than relying solely on age recommendations.
What Size Wetsuit Does My Baby Need?
Our Happy Nappy™ Wetsuits and Happy Nappy™ Sunsuits include an integrated Happy Nappy™, so proper sizing is essential. The Happy Nappy™ Wetsuit functions like an adult wetsuit and must fit closely to trap a layer of water that keeps your baby warm. The Sunsuit offers more flexibility at the top whilst maintaining a snug Happy Nappy™ bottom.
How to measure for Happy Nappy™ Wetsuit sizes:
- Do not measure after feeding
- Measure tummy circumference across the belly button
- Measure thigh circumference at the fullest part
- Measure chest circumference under the arms, across the fullest part
- Measure height from the top of the shoulder to the crotch
Baby Wrap™ Wetsuit Sizes
The Baby Wrap™ is our most flexible sizing option, designed to accommodate growth over several months. This 2mm neoprene wetsuit covers your baby's core with adjustable fastenings over the shoulders and down the front, allowing you to adjust the fit with each wear.
How to measure for Baby Wrap sizes:
Measure chest circumference around the fullest part, under the arms
Measure height from the top of the shoulder to the crotch
Consider sizing up if your baby is at the top end of a size range
The Baby Wrap™, doesn't require precise fitting and will keep babies warm even with growing room.
Warm In One™ Wetsuit Sizes
The Warm In One™ is a fleece-lined full-body suit that can be worn slightly oversized, unlike thermal wetsuits that require a close fit.
How to measure for Warm In One™ sizes:
Measure chest circumference under the arms and around the back
Measure length from the highest point of the shoulder to the crotch
If measurements fall in the top range, consider the next size up for extended wear
What Size Happy Nappy™ Costume Should I Buy?
The Happy Nappy™ Costume follows the same measuring guidelines as our Happy Nappy™ Wetsuits and Sunsuits. The integrated Happy Nappy™ bottom must fit snugly as described above, whilst the top can be more relaxed. Thick straps prevent the costume from falling down, even with a looser fit at the top.
How to measure for Happy Nappy™ Costume sizes:
Avoid measuring after feeding
Measure tummy circumference across the belly button
Measure thigh circumference at the fullest part
Measure chest circumference under the arms, around the fullest part
Measure height from the top of the shoulder to the crotch
Refer to the size guide, ensuring the Happy Nappy bottom is snug but comfortable.
Finding the correct nappy sizes and wetsuit sizes for your baby ensures they stay comfortable, safe, and warm during swimming lessons and water activities. Whilst age ranges provide a helpful starting point, accurate measurements are essential, particularly for our Happy Nappy™ products, where proper fit creates the secure seal needed for effective leak protection.
Each Splash About product is designed with specific sizing requirements: some like the Happy Nappy™ and Happy Nappy™ Wetsuit require close fitting, whilst others like the Baby Wrap™ and Warm In One™ offer flexibility for growth. By following the measuring guidelines for each product type and consulting our detailed size guides, you can ensure your baby gets the maximum wear and protection from their swimming gear.
