Halloween Frights – What gives you chills in the water?

Spooky season is upon us, and we all have a horror story or two when it comes to swimming with babies and young children. Poo leaks, non-stop crying, and shivers from cold water are all too familiar tales for parents. We asked Brand Ambassador Jazz Carlin what gave her chills when taking baby Max swimming. She shared that her biggest fear was the constant worry that Max might be too cold in the water. As an Olympic swimmer, Jazz knows only too well that pool water can feel chilly if you’re not moving about much, and she worried that Max would get cold during his baby swimming classes.

“Max loves the water. I’ve taken him swimming since he was a baby so he can enjoy it as much as I do. As a child, I grew up with a mum who couldn’t swim, so my dad took me swimming every week. I wanted the same for my baby; I wanted him to grow up appreciating the water and not fearing it. I believe everyone should be able to learn this vital life skill.”

To give Max the best chance of staying warm and happy, Jazz chose the Tug Boats Warm In One—and she hasn’t regretted it! “Max stays super cosy in his Tug Boats suit. It’s like wrapping a blanket around him, even just after we get out of the water. This has really helped me relax about him being cold.”

If you share Jazz’s concerns, the Warm In One baby wetsuit could help ease those worries. Lined with super-soft fleece, it works just like an adult wetsuit by warming a thin layer of water between the baby and the suit to keep them comfortable. Alternatively, Jazz’s friend recommends the Thermaswim Baby Suit. She used to dread swimming sessions with her little one due to constant crying. After Jazz suggested the Thermaswim suit, the difference was remarkable—the crying stopped, and now they both enjoy baby swimming classes together.

Many mums have shared that their biggest fear is the embarrassment of their baby pooing in the pool. Many new parents opt for disposable swim nappies, often because they’re unaware of the more reliable, reusable options. Unfortunately, disposable swim nappies can be less secure, leading to leaks that may result in pool closures for cleaning.

New mum Sophie recently reached out to us with her own horror story:

“I was so excited for our first family holiday. My little one was seven months old and had been swimming for a few months, so I had no concerns about taking her swimming. I got her ready in her cossie and a disposable swim nappy, and we headed into the water. We were having such a lovely time splashing and singing when I suddenly heard a child scream from across the pool. To my horror, they were screaming because bits of poo were floating towards them. I was absolutely mortified—my baby had pooed, and it had come straight out of the nappy and into the pool. The lifeguard blew his whistle, and everyone was evacuated. The pool had to close for the afternoon for cleaning. I’d heard rumours about this sort of thing happening, but I never thought it would happen to me. It did!”

Sophie went on to tell us that since her horror story, she’s been using the Happy Nappy Duo™ , recommended by a friend—and she hasn’t looked back. The Happy Nappy Duo™ did exactly what it promised, containing everything the next time her little girl had an accident in the water.

Splash About has everything you need to turn swimming nightmares into dream experiences! From baby wetsuits that keep shivers at bay to reliable, reusable neoprene swim nappies that help keep pools clean.
